In terms of appearance, motorbikes are completely different from cars. This difference is not simply in appearance, four wheels or two wheels, but is a difference in operating mode, operating structure…
And so manufacturers of motorbike lubricants are completely different from car lubricants. It’s not necessarily true that high-quality lubricants for cars have better performance than motorbikes.
Differences in operating mode
A 1-cylinder motorbike or motorbike engine with a capacity of 150cc can produce 15 horsepower and a rotation speed of up to 7500 rpm. Meanwhile, a 1500cc family car engine has a capacity of about 100 horsepower and reaches 5000 rpm. Thus, the car cylinder capacity is 10 times higher but the generated power is only 6.66 times higher. This shows that motorbike engines work harder than cars. Therefore, the quality of motorbike oil is completely different, and the sliding durability is higher than that of car oil.
Differences in engine protection
For four-stroke motorcycles, the gearbox and clutch are mounted in the same box as the engine. Therefore, motorcycle lubricants are used to protect and lubricate the engine, gearbox and clutch. This is the three-in-one function of motorcycle lubricants. Therefore, they must ensure features to lubricate the engine well, protect the gearbox against pressure and wear, and have enough friction to avoid clutch slipping. Meanwhile, car oil only needs to lubricate and protect the engine.
For engine and transmission protection, when choosing lubricants, we can look at the data listed on the product packaging of lubricant manufacturing companies.
