CLASSIFICATION OF LUBRICANTS ACCORDING TO SAE STANDARDS

Without lubricant, no engine can operate, regardless of whether it is a car engine or a machine. That is why lubricant oil is considered an indispensable precious material in today’s society. Currently. However, most of us often rely on the information provided by the seller and rarely bother to learn the basic parameters of this material, so it is difficult to avoid using it incorrectly. And to overcome this situation, let’s refer to the following useful information:

*Lubricants and basic parameters.
We all know that there are many factors and criteria to evaluate a good lubricant, but the most important is still viscosity. Regarding viscosity, manufacturers have agreed on the following conventions:
Normally on car oil caps we often see symbols such as 10w40, 15w60,… and their meanings are simply explained as follows:
-Lubricants with the letter W: are called multi-grade lubricants, these are lubricants that can be used in all seasons, including winter, and especially can operate at many different temperatures.
-Other types of lubricants have other symbols such as: c, s, v… v… then they are called single-grade lubricants, only used at a certain temperature, and obviously the lubricants have different grades. The larger the letter, the better.

So what does the number before the letter W represent?
That is the cold temperature at which car oil can still operate in winter. This number is calculated as follows:
For example: 10 W, first we will use the number 30 as the default common number, subtract this front number we have 20, then take its opposite number -20 we have the heat number the temperature at which car oil can operate in winter.
Therefore, the higher the negative level of a certain type of car oil, the better, but that is when used abroad, in countries with snow and in winter with low temperatures. In Vietnam, most of the numbers are limited to a minimum of 15w-20w because the winter in Vietnam is not very cold. On the other hand, these types of lubricants are quite cheap abroad, so importing them to Vietnam brings the best results. , their price is mid-range so they are used quite widely.

What types of engines are single-grade lubricants commonly used for?
With outstanding features and unique properties, this oil is often used in 2-stroke engines or industrial machines.
